Transcleral diode laser retinopexy provides a convenient alternative to cryopexy during retinal reattachment surgery. It combines the closure of retinal breaks with an increase in retinal adhesion during retinal reattachment surgery. Cryopexy has the potential to stimulate PVR, and can also sometimes lead to cystoid macular edema. Diode Laser Retinopexy offers a safer alternative to cryopexy, using the special retinopexy probe developed by Star Lasers. A special optical arrangement at the fiber tip gives energy at right angles to the probe tip, which is very convenient. The distal end of the fiber is covered with a curved glass tube, which makes for easy scleral indentation. The retinopexy probe can also be used for intra ocular tumors, ROP and neo vascular glaucoma. The 810 nm laser fiber does not stick to the sclera, and can easily penetrate through silicone exoplants. |
